We are pleased to bring you a post from a guest blogger today. Erica McClanahan is a Bay Area California native who attended the University of California, Berkeley. Her major in American Studies with an emphasis in race, ethnicity, and health in America has led her down the path of becoming a teen health educator. She is currently a HealthCorps Coordinator at a New York City school.
I can’t help but twist my face in disgust at the quality (or lack thereof) of the foods that my students have access to every day in the school cafeteria. School should be the place where students have access to healthy choices that will provide them with energy and proper nutrition that they need to complete their day. As you can tell by the picture, options like fried mozzarella cheese sticks and french fries are offered as options for the students on a regular basis. (more…)
