Getting ready to celebrate Halloween on October 31? Halloween has Celtic roots: the ancient Celts believed that on October 31, those no longer in this world would cause all kinds of problems: sickness, damaged farm crops… you name it. To combat these problems, the Celts wore costumes – essentially impersonating the dead – to placate the spirits. Although we still see ghouls, goblins and skeletons, we’ve come a long way, and now have an expanded costume repertoire. So as you prepare to dress up as a superhero, fairy princess or world-famous TV sponge, be sure to coordinate with some Halloween-appropriate lunches!
Create some extreme pumpkins
There are many cool pumpkin patterns and tools out there to help make this year’s carvings the spookiest. Check out our Halloween store for some cool books and tools we’ve found to inspire you!
Cut it out
While we have some special lunch items that are Halloween-appropriate, you’ll find that you can make most anything special by using a custom cookie cutter to shape it. We found cutters shaped like pumpkins, tombstones, bats or ghosts.
Having a party? Go all out
We found a lot of other cool web sites with some ghoulish recipes. The items we chose to feature on our site are those we felt were practical for a packed lunch, or for a quick prep time. If you’ve got the time, and are planning on a party or other special gathering, we recommend Disney’s Family Fun site for some great ideas.
